About IELTS - History

The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam was first developed in 1980 by the British Council, IDP Education, and the University of Cambridge's ESOL Examinations (now known as Cambridge Assessment English). The exam was designed to provide a standardized measure of English language proficiency for non-native speakers who wished to study or work in English-speaking countries.
Initially, the exam was used primarily in the United Kingdom and Australia, but it soon gained popularity in other countries as well. Over the years, the exam has undergone several revisions and updates to ensure that it remains relevant and up-to-date with the changing needs of test takers and institutions.

Today, the IELTS exam is recognized and accepted by thousands of institutions and organizations worldwide, including universities, employers, immigration agencies, and professional bodies. It is considered one of the most popular and reliable measures of English language proficiency, and is taken by millions of test takers each year.
