IELTS Reading Test - General Training

The IELTS Reading test in the General Training module is designed to assess a candidate's reading skills in English. The test consists of 40 questions and takes 60 minutes to complete. The test is divided into three sections, and each section contains one long reading passage.

The three sections of the IELTS Reading test in the General Training module are:

  • Section 1: Contains two or three short factual texts on everyday topics. The texts are usually taken from notices, advertisements, and company handbooks.
  • Section 2: Contains two short factual texts on work-related topics, such as job descriptions and company policies.
  • Section 3: Contains one longer text on a general topic of interest. The text is taken from newspapers, magazines, or journals.

During the IELTS Reading test, candidates are provided with a question booklet and an answer sheet. Candidates are required to read the passages and answer the questions based on the information provided in the texts. The questions can take different forms, such as multiple-choice questions, matching tasks, completion tasks, and short answer questions.

Candidates are required to transfer their answers to the answer sheet within the time provided. The IELTS Reading test in the General Training module is scored on a nine-band scale, and the score is based on the number of correct answers. There is no penalty for incorrect answers.

The Reading test score is then combined with the scores from the other IELTS modules (Listening, Writing, and Speaking) to give an overall IELTS band score.
